Took the boring corporate job over the startup gig 2 years ago

Turned down a trendy fintech startup for a stable role at a legacy insurance firm (boring, I know). My old coworker who took the startup got laid off in 6 months, while I've gotten three steady promotions since. Has anyone else made the "safe" choice and seen it pay off long term?
