Am I the only one who tried laminating a beam with construction adhesive instead of wood glue

I had a 16 foot span to patch on a job in Fort Worth last month and grabbed a tube of PL Premium because the wood glue was buried in the truck. The joint held fine but it cured so stiff that it squeaked every time someone walked across the floor above it, and I had to pull it apart and redo it with Titebond 3 after two weeks. Has anyone else had a construction adhesive go wrong on a glue up, or is that just me not knowing when to use the right stuff?
