Dewalt miter saw stopped dead on a job site callout last week
I’ve always been a Milwaukee guy for cordless stuff but needed a new 12 inch miter saw for a trim job in Nashville. My buddy swore by his Dewalt 780 but I figured it was just hype. Then my saw seized up right before cutting crown molding and he let me borrow his and that thing cut smooth as butter even after I dropped it off a tailgate. Final straw was when the bevel lock didn’t slip once across 40 cuts. Anyone else been proven wrong about a brand they hated?

@verar21 yeah that side by side test sounds pretty legit. I used to be all Milwaukee until I actually used a Dewalt saw for a full day job. The bevel lock thing is what got me too, never slipped once and I was cutting crown molding at some weird angles. Funny how quick your mind changes when you see it work.

Never slipped once" is what really got me because that's exactly the kind of thing that makes you switch sides in your head. I had the same thing happen with a different brand of tool a few years back and it felt like I was just being stubborn for no reason. It's humbling when your whole opinion gets flipped by actually using something instead of just going by what you heard. I think we all have that one brand we refuse to try until something forces us to. Good for you for giving it a real shot, that's more than most people do.

Man I've heard so much back and forth about Dewalt vs Milwaukee over the years. Read a thread on one of those contractor forums where a guy ran a side by side test with the 780 and a similar Milwaukee model. Said the Dewalt held its cut line better after 500+ cuts. Never would have believed it myself but seeing your story makes me wonder. Might have to actually try one out next time I'm at the supply house.
