Got schooled on scribing by a retired guy at a lumberyard in Bend
I was trying to fit a piece of trim to a stone fireplace and my cuts were way off. This old guy saw me struggling, walked over, and showed me how to use a simple compass to trace the exact rock shape onto the wood. What's your go-to trick for fitting trim to uneven walls?

What about using a contour gauge? I keep one in my tool bag for weird corners. You just press it into the shape and it locks, then you trace that line onto your trim. Saves so much time over trying to measure every little bump.

Oh man, that reminds me of my buddy's nightmare trying to trim out a crooked old farmhouse window. He fought with it for hours, then his wife just took a bunch of cardboard from a cereal box and made a perfect template by pressing it into the gap. Cut the wood from that and it slid right in. Sometimes the simplest fix is just staring you in the face.

Love that story about the cardboard template. It shows how getting too focused on the "right" way can blind you to the easy answer. Stepping back and looking at the problem like a total beginner often gives you the best fix.
