Just realized I could've stuck with a cheap framing nailer vs a $500 Senco 20 years ago

I bought the Senco back in '03 and it's still going strong after framing two houses and a dozen decks. My buddy Mike went through three cheap guns in that same time, spending more in the long run. How many of you still use the same nailer from 15 years ago?

My dad had an old Bostitch nailer from the 90s that he passed down to me, still works like a champ for the occasional shed or fence. Funny how some tools just keep on ticking while others crap out after a few years. He always said spend once cry once, and I guess he was right about that one.

Is it really that serious, @mary776, or just a nailer?

That Bostitch from the 90s is probably a tank, those old pneumatic tools were built different. These days you get a nailer and it might last through one deck before the o-rings go or the trigger jams up. Your dad's "spend once cry once" is the only real rule that sticks. I've had to do the math on that myself with a saw that cost me twice as much but I've had it for fifteen years now. Meanwhile my buddy bought three cheap nailers in the same time span. Kind of makes you wonder why we even bother with the budget stuff anymore.
