Just realized that $40 Japanese pull saw I bought on a whim cuts cleaner than my old circular saw for trim work.

I was convinced it was just a gimmick until I used it on a tricky crown molding job in a San Francisco Victorian last month and got perfect joints on the first try, so has anyone else found a simple hand tool that actually beats a power tool for certain jobs?

Oh man, that's so true... it's like we overcomplicate everything now. My fancy electric can opener just broke and I'm back to the manual one from my grandma's drawer... works better and I don't have to charge it.

Tell me about it. I spent years fighting with a jigsaw on plywood until I grabbed a basic hand saw from a garage sale. Thing cuts a straighter line than I ever got with that buzzing monster, and I don't have to hunt for an outlet or wear ear protection. Sometimes the old way is just quieter, cheaper, and honestly less frustrating.

Totally agree with @markhall about the noise. My old cordless drill was a nightmare for small screws until I switched to a hand driver. The control is just better for delicate work, and my wrist thanks me.
