Picked a cordless circular saw over a corded one for a deck build
Everyone told me to go corded for power, but I went with a 60V cordless for a 400 sq ft deck rebuild in Portland last summer. It handled 2x12s and treated lumber without bogging down once. No dragging extension cords around the yard, no tripping over them either. Battery died once near the end, but my spare got me through the last 20 cuts. Cordless worked fine for me. Anyone else skip the corded route and regret it or not?

Did your buddy try carrying a corded saw across a wet yard in Portland? My friend Mike did a smaller deck in Seattle last spring with a corded model, and he spent half the day untangling the cord from a rhododendron bush and the other half wiping mud off the plug. He swore after that he'd never go back to corded for outdoor work, even if it meant buying three spare batteries.

Guess nobody told your lumber that.

Did you read that article a few months back about the guy who tried using a corded saw in the rain and ended up getting a shock? It was in some home DIY magazine my neighbor left on my porch. I guess it's a common problem with outdoor jobs, especially if you're working around wet dirt or mud like in Portland. Diana has a point about the lumber not caring, but I'd rather deal with batteries than risk getting zapped in a puddle... it just seems like common sense to me.
