Saw a handrail in a Portland cafe that was just a 2x4 with the corners knocked off

It looked rough but felt amazing in the hand, and now I'm thinking about using that shape for a simple bench project.

Sounds like you're overthinking a piece of wood. It's just a 2x4 with the edges taken off, not some big design secret. Maybe just build the bench and see how it goes.

Yeah, victorb74 has a point. It's literally just a piece of wood with the sharp parts sanded down. I get that it felt nice, but is that really enough to base a whole bench design on? Seems like you could just round the edges on any board and get the same feel.
