Update on my old method for scribing baseboard to uneven floors

I used to just freehand the cut with a jigsaw, which always left a gap I'd have to caulk later. After a remodel in Austin where the 100-year-old floors were all over the place, a guy on site showed me how to use a contour gauge and then transfer that line directly to the board with a pencil. How do you guys handle really wavy floors, especially on older homes?

Those old Austin floors are no joke, total nightmare to scribe to.

Ever try a sliding bevel gauge instead?

Oh man, I feel your pain... those things are so tricky to set right.
