Warning: I almost gave up on a tricky crown molding cut

Had to fit a piece into a corner that was way out of square, maybe 3 degrees off. My miter saw just wasn't getting it right after two tries. I remembered a trick from a guy I worked with in Phoenix... he said to cut the piece about an inch long and hold it in place with a couple of finish nails. Then, you can scribe the exact angle from the wall directly onto the back of the molding. I tried it, cut along that scribed line with a coping saw, and it fit perfect. Anyone have a different way to handle a bad corner like that?

Can I ask if hot glue works on my ego after a bad cut?

Glad that scribing trick worked for you, but be careful using finish nails to hold it... they can split that thin molding pretty easy. I just use a dab of hot glue on the back to hold it in place for scribing. Does the same job without the risk of damaging your piece. Learned that the hard way after ruining a nice length of poplar. The hot glue pops right off after.

Hot glue's messy, nails are cleaner.
