Watching a crew use laser guides to frame a simple shed. We used a chalk line and our eyes, and those sheds are still standing 30 years later.

My granddad taught me to check a door frame with a level and a 6-foot board. Those old guys had tricks that just worked, lasers or no lasers.

I used to think those old tricks were just stubbornness, but you're right about them just working. Changed my whole view on "good enough" methods.

In a workshop, I saw a guy check door frames with a straightedge and shims. He said it's more reliable than digital levels in humid weather. Old school ways don't fail when batteries die.
