Had an epiphany about mise en place after watching a home cook on YouTube

I always thought my mise en place was solid. But last week I was watching this home cook channel and she prepped everything in little bowls but also labeled them with tape. Like stage one, stage two, final plate. I tried it during Saturday dinner service and it saved me like 20 seconds per plate. Small change but over 60 covers that adds up. Has anyone else tweaked their setup recently and seen real time savings?

Switching to magnetic strips for my knife block saved me way more time than I expected.

My knife block takes up 3 spots on my counter but the magnetic strip uses zero. It's funny how most of us just deal with clutter forever without thinking "wait, can I just hang this instead?" Once you start looking for vertical storage solutions everything changes, not just knives.

Nah, labeling everything sounds like overkill. You're spending more time writing and sticking tape than you're actually saving in plating.
