My good oven broke down last Tuesday. The repair place said they can't get to it until next week. I'm stuck using a spare that heats in patches, so my breads and pastries come out wrong. What do you guys do when your main gear is out of action?
Read somewhere that putting a baking steel or even just a thick pan on the rack below can help even out weird oven heat. Might salvage a batch of cookies or something while you wait.
Oh man, that’s a smart move. My oven is so bad it bakes one side of a cookie sheet to a crisp and leaves the other side raw dough. I tried the pan trick once but I think my oven is just cursed.
