Overheard a waitress roast a customer's 'medium rare' request and it stuck with me

I was bussing a table last Tuesday when this waitress came back and told the line cook that a guy asked for his steak 'medium rare but with no pink.' We all just stared at each other for a second. It reminded me that people say stuff about food without really knowing what it means, so I don't take it personal anymore. Anyone else get wild orders that make you just nod and cook it the right way anyway?

Nah, I gotta disagree... "no pink" pretty much means well done, you know? The customer could've just said "medium well" if they wanted that tiny sliver of pink in the middle. It's not being snobby to point out that words actually have meanings here.

Not gonna lie, I actually side with the customer on this one. Medium rare means warm red center, but some people just want their steak barely cooked through without it being dry and grey. I've had plenty of customers ask for "medium rare plus" or "medium but still juicy" and honestly I get where they're coming from. They don't know the proper terminology, they just know what they want it to look and taste like. The waitress roasting him for not knowing the right words feels kinda snobby to me.
