Shoutout to the sous who told me to stop peeling ginger with a spoon

I thought he was crazy until I tried it on a 50-pound prep order last Saturday and saved myself like 20 minutes of frustration and wasted ginger. Has anyone else found a weird kitchen hack that actually worked better than the standard way?

You said "peeling ginger with a spoon" and that clicked something in my brain. It's like when people tell you to use dental floss to cut a cake without smashing it or a potato to fix oversalted soup. Everyone just assumes the "right" way is the only way because that's how they were taught or how it's always been done. Then somebody gets lazy or desperate and stumbles onto something way smarter. It's not even about kitchen skills, it's about questioning the "that's just how you do it" habits we all carry around without thinking.

Oh yeah, I was just reading about how people used to think you had to peel carrots or potatoes with a peeler, but then someone figured out a spoon works just as well for ginger. It's wild how many little tricks are out there that nobody bothers to try because they assume the tool is the only answer. Makes me wonder what other dumb rules I'm still following in life without even realizing it.
