Showed up to a catering event and realized my cambro was still sitting in my garage 20 miles away

Was doing a private dinner for 30 people at a winery outside Portland last Saturday. Had the whole menu prepped and loaded but somehow forgot to grab my main cambro with the hot holding stuff. Didn't notice until I was setting up and couldn't find the braised short ribs. Had to send my sous on a 40 minute round trip to grab it while I stalled the guests with extra apps and some bullshit stories about the wine pairings. Service started 25 minutes late but nobody complained because they were all drinking. Has anyone else had a brain fart like that right before service and had to scramble?

Oh man, I'd be lying if I said I've never done something like that. I once drove all the way to a job site only to realize I left the whole truck full of tools at the shop. Had to turn around and waste an hour, felt like a total clown walking back in. At least you had backup apps and booze to save the night, that's a pro move right there. Who hasn't had a moment where you'd trade your right arm for a time machine, right?

@drew965 that's brutal man, nothing worse than that sinking feeling when you realize you goofed. Time machine would be nice but then we'd never learn our lesson.

Did you at least drink some of the wine while you waited? Stalling with extra apps is genius, but the anxiety must have been brutal. We've all had those moments where our brain just checks out at the worst possible time.
