The garlic peeling trick I laughed at but actually works
I had a prep shift where I needed to peel 4 pounds of garlic for a romesco. My usual method of smashing with the blade was leaving half my cloves mangled. Saw some video where a guy put the cloves in two metal bowls and shook them like a maraca. Figured it was bullshit but tried it anyway, 30 seconds of shaking and maybe 10% needed a quick trim. The rest popped right out of their skins. Has anyone else found a kitchen trick they were positive was fake until they actually tested it?

Salt and a cutting board does the same thing but seeing a grown man violently shaking bowls like a DJ at a rave is way more entertaining. Bet the video had some chill lo-fi music in the background making it look all professional too. Now I'm just waiting for the guy who insists you can peel garlic with just a rolling pin and pure rage.

Man, I can't tell you how many times I've been burned by those "life hack" videos only to feel like an idiot when they actually work. It's like the universe is just waiting for me to admit I was wrong. Glad you gave it a shot though, sometimes the janky-looking tricks turn out to be the real deal.

Ha, I feel you on that! What gets me is how the most effective life hacks always look the sketchiest. I tried one of those "fold a fitted sheet in 30 seconds" videos and it took me ten minutes and I ended up with a sheet that looked like a crumpled napkin. @caseym48, I think the real trick is that the janky ones are the ones that actually got tested in some kitchen, not just on a clean counter with perfect lighting. The universe definitely keeps score on who doubted the weird stuff.
