The Saturday brunch shift that nearly broke me...
Last Saturday we had 86 covers in a 2-hour window and my expo station was a war zone. I dropped a whole tray of hollandaise right before service started... has anyone else had a shift where everything just falls apart at the worst moment?

Someone actually slid and took out a table setting over a cambro of ice? That's insane, I can't believe nobody got seriously hurt! The hollandaise thing was bad enough but a full on trip and fall domino effect sounds like a nightmare I'd wake up sweating from. You must have been holding your breath the whole time hoping the bride didn't see it. 86 covers in two hours is already brutal without that kind of chaos piling on top of it.

Oh man, that hurts just reading it. I dropped an entire cambro of chipped ice right as we were setting up for a wedding brunch last year and it shattered everywhere, then someone stepped in it and slid, took out a whole table setting. You don't just bounce back from those moments, you just kind of survive them and hope nobody caught it on their phone. The hollandaise thing is especially brutal though, because there's no quick fix for that, you're just out of sauce and scrambling. I hope your team had your back after the rush died down, because those are the shifts that test everyone.

The part where you said "you just kind of survive them and hope nobody caught it on their phone" really hits. But look at it from the guests' angle. That guy who slipped and took out the table? That's the kind of thing that makes a wedding brunch memorable for all the wrong reasons. You spent the whole shift scared the bride would see it, but most people are just glad it wasn't them. @kelly.nora is right, you don't bounce back from that. You just keep moving and hope the tips make up for the stress.
