Finally got a customer to apologize to me today
Been working retail at a big box hardware store for about 2 years now. This woman came in yesterday screaming about a lawnmower she bought that wouldn't start. She was basically calling me incompetent in front of other customers. I stayed cool, asked her to bring it in so I could take a look. She brought it back this morning and I found the gas cap was still sealed with a plastic tab. Cut that off, filled it up, and it fired right up. Her face went bright red. She actually said sorry for yelling at me. Felt good but also made me think about how many people just assume we're trying to screw them over. Has anyone else had a customer actually admit they were wrong?

Right, that 'gas cap still sealed' part got me, had a guy swear his new drill was broken but the battery just had a plastic tab on it.

That plastic tab on batteries is a classic one. I've had folks bring back brand new power tools saying they won't charge, and sure enough, the little red tab is still sitting right there on the contacts. Same thing with those clear plastic stickers on the display screens of new thermostats or kitchen scales. People think the thing is broken or scratched up when it's just protective film. Always worth taking a good look before you head back to the store.
