Finally got a genuine 'thank you' from a customer after 3 years in retail
I work at a phone store in Austin and yesterday this older guy came in with a cracked screen on his flip phone. Helped him get it sorted through his insurance, took like 20 minutes. He looked me in the eye and said 'I really appreciate your patience, young lady.' Not the usual 'you're welcome' or fake smile. Felt nice for once. Anyone else get those rare moments that keep you going?

The "young lady" part definitely hit different, but some people just don't know how to show thanks in a real way. It's not that they don't appreciate it, they just never practiced saying more than a quick "thanks" so it comes out flat. That one guy breaking the pattern after three years is proof that when someone actually means it, it sticks with you.

That "young lady" thing is REAL, people just forget basic decency exists these days.
