Hot take: I kicked out a customer for being awful, and my manager sided with him.

This person was cursing at me over a mistake they made on their own order. I told them to leave, but later my boss said I should have just taken it. Is it ever okay to stand up for yourself in these jobs?

Bosses taking the customer's side? Story of every service job.

Last week at a local diner, I saw a manager comp a meal because the customer said the fries were cold, but they'd been sitting there for an hour. It's part of a bigger pattern where bosses put customer happiness over backing up their team. This makes workers feel like they don't matter, and customers start to expect special treatment all the time. In the end, places lose their best staff because no one wants to work where they're not supported.

That 'customer over team' thing cost my friend her job.
