Just realized some customers think yelling gets them a better refund

I've had people scream for a manager over a $4 late fee, then get the same policy read to them that I just did. But I've also seen a calm person get a full replacement for a genuinely smashed package without even asking. Does being polite actually work better, or is it just a coin toss based on who picks up the phone?

Working customer service taught me the polite people get way more help. We'd go out of our way for someone nice, like bending a rule or giving a freebie. The shouty ones just got the exact policy, no extras. It felt like rewarding good behavior.

Yeah, "rewarding good behavior" is so true. It's like how you hold the door for someone who says thanks, but not for the person who just shoves past you.

I mean, I'm the same way at the drive-thru. If the person at the window is nice, I'll always drop my extra change in the tip jar. But if they just shove the bag out without a word, I'm pocketing that quarter every time. Idk, maybe it's petty, but it just feels right. You get back what you put out there.
