Learned my "hilarious" pun about my daughter's new job backfired at the dinner table
Last month my daughter got a job as a vet tech and I thought I was being clever at her welcome home dinner when I asked if she 'fixed' the dogs yet. She laughed but my wife gave me the look. Turns out her clinic just did a euthanasia earlier that day for a family pet. I felt like a total heel. She told me it was fine but I could tell it landed wrong. Has anyone else had a joke go sideways because you just didn't know the day they had?

Man, that's rough. You meant well and it's a totally normal joke for parents to make, but those days just hit different for people in that line of work.
