Tried a knock-knock joke at my daughter's PTA meeting and the principal walked in mid-punchline

I was telling the one about the interrupting cow and got to "knock knock" when the principal opened the door, so everyone just stared at me like I'd been running a comedy audition for five minutes straight.

Hate to be that person but the interrupting cow one usually starts with "knock knock" as the setup, not the punchline. So if the principal walked in mid-knock knock, you were probably just getting started. Did you at least finish it after the awkward silence or just give up?

That "did you at least finish it" part hits hard. Whole thing reminds me of how we never get closure on anything anymore, not just jokes. Start a conversation, get interrupted. Watch a movie, phone buzzes every 10 minutes. Try to make a point, someone cuts in with their own story. At least with a bad joke you can just say "forget it" and move on.
