Warning: that $60 'joke training' course was a total dud

I paid $60 for an online 'master the art of dad jokes' course last month, thinking it would help me nail the delivery. The whole thing was just 12 videos of a guy explaining puns with zero examples of when they actually bomb. I tried his 'surefire' icebreaker at my sister's birthday, and the room went so quiet someone asked if I was okay. Anyone else fall for a gimmick like this?

My brother bought that same course back in March and honestly he got way more out of the pun breakdowns than the delivery stuff, but he also watches a ton of standup comedy so he had a head start. The icebreaker thing sounds rough though, I've been there with a badly timed joke and it stings. I think the real value in those courses is just giving you a framework, not a magic script, and you still have to practice reading the room on your own. Maybe try using the material at a smaller gathering next time, like two or three friends who already know your humor. That way you can test the waters without the whole family staring.
