A funny moment at the store with my diesel smell
The cashier asked if I was a firefighter because of the diesel scent on my clothes after I had been fixing an engine.

Isn't it funny how diesel smell makes people think of firefighters? I read that fire trucks often run on diesel.

That point about fire trucks running on diesel is spot on. I heard that diesel engines are common in big rescue vehicles because they have more pulling power. It's not just fire trucks, either, lots of old school buses and construction gear use it too. That sharp smell really hangs in the air at the station when they're getting ready to roll out. It's weird how a scent can bring back such specific memories, like county fairs where they'd park the fire engine. So yeah, that connection totally makes sense.
