An old timer in a Wyoming truck stop showed me a trick for a sticky injector

I was stuck on a 6.7 Powerstroke with a rough idle, and this guy saw me scratching my head. He walked over, told me to 'try tapping the high pressure fuel rail with a brass hammer while it's running, not hard, just a light tap.' It actually worked to free up the sticking injector solenoid. Has anyone else had a random field fix like that save the day?

Sounds like a great way to crack a fuel line.

Ha! Yeah, cracking a fuel line on a running diesel sounds like a great way to turn your truck into a fireball real quick. I'd rather tap on things with a brass hammer and look like I'm playing a weird game of engine percussion than risk the emergency room visit. My luck, I'd crack the line and then spend all afternoon trying to catch diesel in a plastic soda bottle. It's amazing what some light percussive maintenance and blind luck can fix, honestly.

Cracking a fuel line seems a bit dramatic, doesn't it? A light tap with brass is pretty harmless.
