Blew a turbo at 2am on I-80 in Nebraska

Was hauling cattle from Omaha to Cheyenne when I heard that whistling sound turn into a screech. Pulled over and found oil all over the exhaust side, had to limp 30 miles to a truck stop and swap it in the parking lot with a flashlight. Anyone else kept a spare turbo onboard for emergencies?

Pulled the same thing on a trip through Wyoming a few years back only it was a Cummins that let go on me. Had a spare tucked behind the passenger seat cause my buddy swore by it and man did that save my bacon. Changed it at a rest area near Lusk using a headlamp and a prayer, oil was everywhere and I smelled like diesel for three days. Feels like every long haul driver eventually has that moment where you're glad you overprepared. Nebraska at 2am is brutal though, that wind cuts right through you when you're wrenching on the side of the road.

Buddy of mine had the same thing happen outside Cheyenne... never seen a man so grateful for a spare part.
