Chased a ghost power draw for 3 hours on a Peterbilt 379

Turns out a rubbed-through wire in the cab harness was grounding against a bracket hidden up behind the dash. Took me longer to find than it did to fix. Anybody else ever spend way too long chasing a simple short?

Man, I feel your pain. I spent a whole Saturday once chasing a short in a Freightliner that turned out to be a wire pinched under the floor mat. The mat was brand new too, so it was just bad luck. You pull your hair out for hours, check all the obvious spots, then find it hiding in some dumb corner. That bracket behind the dash is pure evil, I've been there. It's always the simple stuff that takes forever.

...and that bracket is exactly why I keep a small telescoping mirror in my tool bag now. Spent three hours on a Kenworth once, same deal, rubbed through right where you can't see it. The mirror saved me on the next one, found it in like ten minutes. It's always the hidden spots that get you though.

Got a telescoping mirror yet? Best five bucks I ever spent.
