Discovered a trick to stop diesel gelling in -20 weather without additives
Last winter I had a 2019 Freightliner Cascadia keep stalling out on a job site near Buffalo. Gelled fuel was the issue and I tried those anti-gel bottles but they didn't cut it. Then an old timer told me to wrap a magnetic block heater around the fuel tank for 2 hours before starting. Tried it on a -22 degree morning and the truck fired right up with no issues. I saved about $80 a month not buying those expensive additives. Has anyone else used block heaters on tanks like this or is it a bad idea long term?

Man those magnetic heaters draw a ton of power and I've heard of them messing with the fuel pickup long term if they get left on too long, plus that's just extra wear on your battery and alternator for something additives can handle if you buy the right ones.

Saw a guy on a trucking forum say those magnetic heaters can warp the tank if you leave them on overnight in serious cold. Ever notice any heat marks on yours?
