Had to pick between a full rebuild or just the head gasket on a 6.0 Powerstroke
The truck came in with classic coolant in the oil, and the owner was on a tight budget. I could have just done the gasket, but the history pointed to possible cavitation. We went with the full bulletproofing kit, including studs and a new oil cooler. It took two extra days, but the pressure test came back perfect today. Anyone have a go-to brand for those EGR delete kits that doesn't throw a code?

Good call on the bulletproofing. I saw a post on a forum last week where a guy said the Sinister Diesel EGR delete kit worked without a code on his 6.0.

Skip the delete kit entirely. You're gonna chase issues with those things forever and most of them piss off the PCM eventually. The soft code situation is a gamble every time, and I've seen more trucks come back with flutter and temp spikes after a cheap delete than I care to count. Stick with the factory strategy and a proper tune if you want it to run clean.

Careful with that Sinister kit, some guys still get a soft code that doesn't light the dash. I've had better luck with the Bulletproof Diesel one.
