Hit 500,000 miles on a 6.7 Cummins this morning and it still purrs like new

The old heads say half a million is nothing on these but the newer guys think I'm crazy for keeping a truck that long, so what's your cutoff for when an engine is just too worn to trust on a long haul or does mileage even matter anymore?

@taylor668 nailed it, maintenance is everything. I've got a 7.3 with 430k on it and I'd trust it to drive across the country tomorrow no hesitation, it's all about staying on top of the basics. Mileage is just a number when the engine's been babied its whole life.

Used to be one of those guys who traded trucks right around 100k, but seeing posts like this changes my whole view lol. Half a million with the right maintenance says more than any engine age ever could.
