I finally got a torque wrench calibration check done after 4 years of guessing
Been using the same Snap-on torque wrench since 2019 without ever checking if it was still accurate, just figured it was fine. Took it to a shop in Phoenix last week and found out it was off by 12 ft-lbs on the high end, which explains why I kept snapping head bolts on those Cummins rebuilds. Has anyone else ever had their favorite torque wrench drift that much without noticing weird results?

Nah, my buddy had his wrench drift 15 lbs and snapped studs on a 7.3 rebuild.

Forget snapping studs, I can barely trust myself with a torque wrench on a good day. I got one of those cheap beam-style ones from harbor freight and I swear it's off by like 10 lbs right out of the box. Last time I tried to use it on my buddy's old jeep I just guessed on the ugga duggas and hoped for the best. Ended up stripping a bolt on the alternator bracket and we just used zip ties. Honestly I'm surprised my own engine hasn't yeeted a rod into orbit with my "torque by feel" method.
