I was at a truck pull in Knoxville and saw a guy run his 6.7 Powerstroke with a cracked intercooler pipe for three passes. The way it sputtered made me rethink every 'it'll be fine' I've ever said.

That "it'll be fine" is a universal trucker motto, I swear.

Ever wonder where that attitude comes from? Is it just long hours on the road making people shrug off risks, or is there more to it? I've heard stories about guys driving with questionable brakes or in crazy weather because the load had to get there. Does the job itself force that mindset, or do only certain types of people stick with it?

You see that "it'll be fine" attitude everywhere once you start looking for it. It's not just about long hours, it's about the whole culture of getting the job done no matter what. The pressure from dispatchers and tight deadlines makes ignoring small problems feel normal. After a while, a cracked pipe or a weird noise just becomes background noise to the next paycheck.
