I was torquing head bolts with a cheap beam wrench for years until a snapped stud on a 6.7 Powerstroke showed me the light.

My buddy learned this the hard way on his old Chevy 350. He was using a beam wrench to put heads back on, swore it was fine. The thing read 65 foot-pounds, but his click-type wrench later showed it was actually putting down over 90. He warped a brand new head. Troy494, I get the thinking, but those beam wrenches can lie to you without you even knowing. The spring inside gets tired, or you read it wrong from an awkward angle. It's not always about a bad part, sometimes the tool just isn't telling you the truth.

Honestly though, how bad can a beam wrench really be? I mean, they've worked fine for ages on tons of stuff. Maybe that one stud was just a fluke or already had a crack in it. Feels like sometimes people just blame the tool after something goes wrong. Idk, maybe it's just me but I've never had a problem with mine.
