Old timer told me to torque rod caps twice, saved me a comeback job

Guy I shadowed in Tulsa swore by pulling rod bolts down, backing off, then re-torquing to spec, I thought he was full of it till I saw a spun bearing at 40k miles on a brand new rebuild. Anyone else getting quoted more time for double torque on their PMs these days?
