Saw a 4MPG jump after switching to synthetic oil in my 7.3
Been running conventional Rotella for 8 years in my '03 F-350. Swapped to full synthetic last oil change. Drove the same route for a month back and forth to a job site in Nashville. Went from 14.2 to 18.5 MPG. Truck idles smoother too. Anyone else see that kind of change with the 7.3 Powerstroke?

That 4.3 MPG jump from switching oils is wild, I totally get it.

DANG that's a solid jump! I've been running synthetic in my '02 for a few years now and saw about a 2.5 mpg gain, but 4.3 is impressive. @daniel857 has a point that it's wild, but I think a lot of folks overlook how the 7.3's HEUI injectors really LOVE that clean synthetic oil. It's not just the friction reduction, it's the injectors firing WAY more efficiently with the thinner cold flow. That Nashville traffic probably has you idling a bunch too, which is where synthetic really shines since conventional breaks down fast in stop and go heat cycles.

Wait, are you saying my truck's injectors are out here living their best life just because I switched oil? Guess I've been treating mine to a spa day every 5,000 miles without even knowing it.
