Saw a really clean old Detroit Diesel 8V92 in a truck at the Boise swap meet

It was in a 1979 Peterbilt 359, and the owner had kept the original engine. The paint on the valve covers was fresh, all the lines were routed neatly, and the block was spotless. He said he does a full hot pressure wash every six months to keep the grime from building up. Anyone else run into older rigs that are still this well cared for?

Man, that's awesome to hear. I love seeing someone put that kind of love into an old workhorse. It's so rare now, most stuff just gets run into the ground. Seeing a spotless 8V92, especially with those old school valve covers, must have been a real treat. Good on that owner for keeping the legend alive.

Exactly, it's a real labor of love. I read a piece a while back about how those old Detroit Diesels were built with service in mind, but keeping one that clean still takes serious effort. It shows a real respect for the machine itself, not just what it can do for you. That owner gets it.
