Spent $500 on a used scan tool for a 2012 Freightliner and it saved my weekend
I mean, I was stuck on a no-start for hours, throwing parts at it like the old days. The shop's main scanner was down and this old Snap-on Solus I found online could still talk to the engine module. It pulled a code for the crank sensor signal that our newer box just missed. Got the truck running by Saturday afternoon. Anyone else find that sometimes the older diagnostic gear just works better on the pre-2015 stuff?

That sounds like a lucky break more than a rule.

Honestly @the_logan, I see that a lot with the older trucks. The simpler tools just speak their language better sometimes.

Tell me about it. My uncle's old Ford only runs right if you threaten it with a wrench from the 70s. Some machines just have a real attitude problem.
