Talked to an old fleet mechanic in Tulsa and he said my torque wrench was just a suggestion tool

He told me he never uses a torque wrench on lug nuts, just goes by feel after 40 years, and now I'm wondering if I'm wasting time or if he's just lucky nothing's snapped off on him yet, anyone else run into old timers who refuse to torque stuff?

Man, talk about a blast from the past lol. I had an old timer at a shop in Ohio tell me the same thing about my torque wrench for spark plugs, said he just gave 'em a good "German snug" and called it done. Tried it on my old F-150 once and two plugs backed out on the highway, scared the heck out of me. Now I just stick to the spec, 20 ft-lbs for those plugs, never had an issue since.

Yeah @terryf62 is right, I learned the hard way too so now I always torque em down.
