Stripped the bolts on three of them before I figured out you gotta use a torque wrench on those.

Well now, I gotta push back a little on that... I never really saw the crack issue as that common, more like a few bad batches maybe. I pulled a dozen of those coolers apart that month and found most of them were fine, just needed the bolts retorqued. Sorry @stella_baker, but I think carrying spares was jumping the gun a bit.

Oh man, don't remind me. That was the year I started carrying a spare EGR cooler in the bed of my truck like it was a spare tire. Had three trucks go down in one week, all with the same crack right where the bracket mounts. The shop tried telling me it was a fluke, but I knew better after the second one. Ended up just buying a case of gaskets and doing them all myself in the driveway.
