Trailer brake controller got me through a 2 hour mountain pass in Virginia

I was hauling a loaded 12k trailer through the Blue Ridge Parkway last spring and the brakes kept grabbing on the downhills. I tried adjusting the gain, different delay settings, nothing felt right. Then I found this old video about wiring the controller to a separate ground wire instead of the chassis. Took me 20 minutes to redo it behind the dash and the difference was night and day. Smoothest stop I've ever had with a load that heavy. Anyone else had ground issues mess with their trailer brake feel?

Man, I feel your pain on this. I spent a whole weekend chasing a grabby brake issue on my rig, thought I was losing my mind. Turned out the PO had grounded the controller to a rusty bolt under the dash that looked fine but was basically just decoration. Spent more time contorting myself under there than I did actually hauling anything. After I ran a dedicated ground, it was like the trailer brakes finally started listening to me instead of doing their own thing. My wife still laughs at me for the string of swear words I let out when I finally figured it out. Now I check grounds on everything before I even touch the gain knob.
