Vent: hit 500 engine rebuilds and then realized I lost count somewhere around 380
I was just cleaning up my shop logbook the other day and saw a number that jumped out at me. I had tallied up all my diesel rebuilds from the past 12 years and got to 503. That seems like a big milestone but then I realized I probably double counted a bunch of jobs early on when I was working out of a buddy's garage in Bakersfield. I remember we had three 6.7 Powerstrokes in a row and I think I marked them down twice in the same week. So who knows if I really hit 500 or not. Has anyone else ever lost track of their real numbers like that and just guessed?

Did you ever stop to think that maybe the double counting was a good thing... like it gave you a way to track those early rebuilds that didn't have proper paperwork? I had a buddy who used to scratch tallies on his garage wall and when he finally moved shops he found a second set of marks behind a shelf he'd forgotten about. Might be worth looking at your old logbooks from Bakersfield to see if there's a pattern in the handwriting or ink colors that could help you sort out the real from the double entries.

503 seems like a pretty good round number to me even if it's off lol. Honestly who's really gonna check your logbook from 12 years ago anyway.
