Found a way to get a solid internet check before booking a place
I got stuck in Medellin for a week with a 5 Mbps connection that killed my work. Now I message the host on Airbnb and ask them to run a speed test from the unit and send a screenshot. One host in Lisbon actually did it, showed 85 Mbps down, and I booked it right away. How do you guys check the internet when you can't see the place first?

That's a really smart move asking for a screenshot. Read a blog post once where a guy had a whole checklist. He'd message hosts before booking to ask specific questions, like if the wifi router was in the unit or shared with the building. Sometimes the answer itself tells you a lot, like if they seem confused or avoid the question. In my experience, asking if it's good for video calls gets more honest answers than just asking if it's "good." A host who says it's fine for email and web browsing is basically telling you it's slow.

Totally feel that. Got burned by a "fast wifi" listing that couldn't even load a map.
