Just compared coworking space wifi in Chiang Mai vs my own Thai SIM card hotspot and the winner was obvious

I was paying $150 a month for a fancy coworking space in Chiang Mai thinking the internet was top tier. Then last week my membership lapsed for a day so I just used my AIS SIM card hotspot from home. Turns out my $20 a month phone plan gives me faster and more stable speeds than that whole building. The coworking space had like 50 people all sharing one connection while my hotspot is just me. Has anyone else found that local SIM data beats coworking wifi in Southeast Asia?

Yeah I had the exact same thing happen in Bangkok. I was paying for a WeWork style place thinking it was the best internet in the city. Then one day the router died and I just tether from my TrueMove SIM. My phone was hitting 80 mbps while the coworking space was struggling with 20 on a good day. The thing is those places have too many people streaming video and making calls at once. Now I just work from cafes or my apartment with hotspot and it costs me basically nothing.

Totally changed my mind reading this. I used to think coworking spaces were always the smart move for reliable internet. But you're right, too many people fighting for the same bandwidth kills it. Now I'm thinking I'll just test my own hotspot first before paying for another membership.
