Just realized I've been overpacking my carry-on for 2 years now

I was in a coworking space in Medellin last week and the guy next to me pulled out one of those tiny backpack setups. He travels with just 15L while I'm hauling 40L of stuff I never use. How do you guys figure out what you actually need vs what you think you need?

I placed everything on my bed, packed it, then removed half the clothes and it still worked.
