My laptop charger fried itself in a Chiang Mai coffee shop
The power strip had a weird voltage spike and I heard a pop. I lost a full day of work finding a replacement that cost $120. Anyone else had gear fail because of bad power overseas?

That $120 replacement cost is brutal.

Ugh, seriously @phoenix29. It makes you wonder what the actual materials cost is versus the brand name markup. Like, I had a cheap pair of wireless buds that broke and the whole replacement process was a maze of mailing things and waiting weeks. That $120 feels like they're charging for the hassle of not wanting to deal with finding a new brand you like. You're kinda stuck paying it.

Kinda stuck paying it" is exactly right, that's the part that gets me. They know you're trapped and just charge whatever they want, it's so frustrating.
