My laptop charger fried itself in a Chiang Mai coffee shop

The power strip had a weird voltage spike and I heard a pop. I lost a full day of work finding a replacement that cost $120. Anyone else had gear fail because of bad power overseas?

Like, I had a cheap pair of wireless buds that broke and the whole replacement process was a maze of mailing things and waiting weeks.
