My Lisbon host told me my 'work from the beach' photos were hurting my business

I was staying in an apartment in Lisbon last year and my host, a guy named Miguel, saw my laptop background was a beach shot. He said, 'People see that and think you're on vacation, not that you're someone they can trust with a big deal.' It made me realize my whole online look was wrong. I changed my profile pictures and stopped posting work shots from the sand. Has anyone else had to change how they show their work life online?

What kind of work do you do where that beach image felt right before Miguel's comment?

That beach pic just fits the vibe of a lot of remote work social posts, like a visual shorthand for freedom before the reality check.

Yeah that "visual shorthand for freedom" idea is spot on. I mean, maybe we all just copied that look without asking if it actually works. Do you think it ever helps to seem that relaxed, or is it always a bad move?
