My uncle told me to always book a month in Medellin, not a week

He was right, the discount for the longer stay was huge and I actually got to know the neighborhood. Anyone else find that first month in a new spot is the sweet spot?

Your uncle gave great advice. I did the same in Mexico City last year and it made all the difference. You find your favorite coffee shop, the best local market, and stop feeling like a tourist. @charles_green95 makes a fair point about the risk, but that's why you really have to check the reviews and photos. My first week was just getting settled, but by the third week I was friends with the lady who ran the taco stand down the street.

My buddy booked a whole month in Lisbon last year and hated it. He was stuck in a noisy apartment with a broken AC and couldn't get his money back. Sometimes a week is enough to know you picked the wrong area. What if you get there and realize you don't like the vibe or the neighbors are awful? A month is a big commitment to a place you've never seen.
