That guy from the coworking space in Chiang Mai told me to stop using my phone as a hotspot

He was this super smug digital nomad who'd been at it for 5 years, and he kept saying I'd regret it when I lost connection during a client call. I laughed it off because my phone plan had like 50GB of data. Then last Tuesday, my laptop froze during a Zoom meeting with a client in Australia, and I realized my hotspot was throttling me hard. Has anyone else had a coworking space know-it-all turn out to be right about something annoying?

and the worst part is they always have this look like they've been waiting their whole life to be proven right! same thing happened to me in Bali last year, some guy kept warning me about using my phone as a hotspot while editing videos for clients. I was like yeah sure buddy I got unlimited data. turns out unlimited data doesn't mean unlimited speed after you hit some hidden cap. my whole upload queue just stopped dead during an edit review, and the client's deadline was in like 3 hours. had to run to the nearest cafe with proper wifi while sending apologetic messages the whole time. now I actually listen when those smug coworking space regulars give advice, even if it hurts my pride a little.

Totally feel you @eva908, that exact panic of realizing the cap is real is the worst. Honestly, those local regulars might have that annoying look, but they've usually burned themselves once to learn the hard way too. At least you saved yourself from a second lesson even if your pride took a hit.
